'Posts will be blocked even if you…': Reddit users complain after moderators ban them for posting about Pahalgam attack

Reddit

users across multiple India-focused subreddits report that moderators have been systematically removing posts and banning members who attempt to discuss the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The controversy centers on r/Delhi, where users say even basic references to the incident trigger deletions or bans under rules against “self-referential or meta discussions” and “incit[ing] drama.”

“Saare posts Pahalgam Ko Leke Delete Ho Gye …”

“So just to be clear. Posts will be blocked even if you simply post about them?” asked one user in a now-removed thread that merely quoted official headlines: “Pahalgam terror attack LIVE: Several tourists feared dead; Amit Shah leaves for Srinagar.” The post was swiftly taken down, with a moderator comment from “delhi-ModTeam” citing rule violations:
“Your post has been removed as it breaks r/Delhi’s rules. We do not allow submissions or comments that focus on self-referential or meta discussions about moderators, moderation of this subreddit or other subreddits. Any content that aims to incite drama which can harm the well-being of this subreddit or other subreddits will be removed and acted on by the moderators. If you have suggestions for moderation team, please send them via modmail.”

When questioned, moderator “IArnMohit” responded simply: “Read the rules maybe sometime.”
Users report this isn’t an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern. “Yeh bhi delete ho jayga jaise saare posts

Pahalgam ko leke delete

ho gye. Aur tum ab ban v ho jaoge, they literally deleted every post,” one member warned, meaning “This too will be deleted just like all Pahalgam-related posts. And now you’ll probably get banned.”

Is r/Delhi moderator from Pakistan? Redditors allege so

The controversy has intensified with allegations that moderator “Mohit” is “a Pakistani using Indian name,” with users claiming he has a history of “pro-Pakistani comments” and selective moderation. One thread in r/IndianModerate went as far as labeling r/Delhi “our subreddit owned by some foreigner,” expressing distrust that a non-local has authority over community discussions.
“Strange how some incidents never make it past the filter. We see you erasing it but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” wrote one user in another quickly removed post titled “Please y’all stay safe.”
The situation has driven frustrated r/Delhi members to create r/delhiuncesnored, an alternative forum for uncensored discussion. “We created this so that people can talk about what matters to Delhiites. No filters. No foreign mods,” explained one founder.

r/India, r/Delhi, r/Kashmit – all have been heavily moderated for posting about Pahalgam attack, says Redditors

Similar patterns have emerged beyond Delhi. Users complained that posts about the

Pahalgam

terrorist attack were being removed on r/india, and that discussing the incident led to bans. One user vented in a meta post that “the official subreddit of India r/India is actively removing posts, comments and banning users discussing the attack” (stating it was under the pretext of preventing “communal tension”) In the comments, another user shared a personal experience: “Got banned from r/India.” All these users claim that they were banned after trying to talk about the attack (April 23, 2025).
Members on r/This_is_Kolkata noted, “Posts and comments on Pahalgam Terrorist Attack is being deleted on r/delhi just like what happened in r/kolkata…” suggesting coordination across regional subreddits.
On the Kashmiri-focused subreddit r/Kashmiri, users likewise reported censorship. “I am banned from there for sometime and I don’t even know why. Today I tried making a post and got to know I am banned,” one user complained about discovering a ban in that community.
Another user pointed out that a violent remark which had been posted in r/Kashmiri shortly before the attack was later removed by mods: “On the

kashmiri

sub they posted ‘why call tourism if you can’t shoot them’ like 5 days ago. Now they have removed that post.”
Users attempting to appeal through ModMail report being ignored or facing additional penalties. “I got banned just for asking why my post was removed,” claimed one person. Another stated, “All my accounts banned. Main, throwaway, burner. They’re just blocking everyone talking about Pahalgam.”
The situation has driven frustrated r/Delhi members to create r/delhiuncesnored, an alternative forum for uncensored discussion. “We created this so that people can talk about what matters to Delhiites. No filters. No foreign mods,” explained one founder.
Redditors argue that while r/Delhi’s moderation team cites rules against “meta discussions” and content that “aims to incite drama,” these policies are being selectively enforced to suppress discussion of a significant national security event.
