Fans of historical dramas and romantic narratives are in for a treat with the release of

My Lady Jane

. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows, this eight-episode series promises to captivate audiences with its unique take on the story of Lady Jane Grey, the ‘

Nine-Day Queen

’ of England. Here’s all you need to know about the drama:

What’s the plot?

Unlike the tragic fate that befell the real-life Lady Jane Grey, the series reimagines her journey, exploring an alternate history where King Henry VIII’s son, Edward, does not succumb to tuberculosis, and Jane herself avoids the executioner’s axe.

Instead, the series follows Jane’s unexpected ascension to the throne and her subsequent fight against nefarious villains who seek to claim the crown for themselves. The series promises to blend elements of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and what the creators describe as rompy-pompy to create an immersive and engaging viewing experience. Filming for the series took place in the UK, with locations such as Great Chalfield Manor near Bath, Dover Castle in Kent, and Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex serving as the backdrop for the show’s Tudor-era setting.

Meet the cast

Created by Gemma Burgess, Meredith Glynn and a Jamie Babbit directorial, My Lady Jane boasts of a talented ensemble cast. Newcomer Emily Bader takes on the lead role of Lady Jane Grey, with Killing Eve’s Edward Bluemel portraying her husband, Lord Guildford Dudley. The supporting cast includes the likes of Jordan Peters as King Edward VI, Anna Chancellor as Lady Frances Grey, Rob Brydon as Lord Dudley, Dominic Cooper as Lord Seymour, and the legendary Jim Broadbent as Lord Leicester.

When and where to watch My Lady Jane?

My Lady Jane is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from June 27, 2024.
