Billie Eilish faces flak over her 'men are not judged for their appearance' statement

Being a public figure brings its own pros and cons. On the one hand, where you enjoy immense fame, on the other hand, you have to be double sure before saying something because your one statement can spark a controversy. Something similar happened with Billie Eilish, as the pop star recently gave a statement suggesting that men are not criticized as much for their appearances as women are. This statement by the singer has not gone down well with the netizen; thus, he is facing heavy backlash.
The ‘Birds of a Feather’ singer Billie recently in her conversation with Variety, mentioned how much

media scrutiny

she had to face when she wore a tank top in public at the age of 16. She also shared that if it had been a man in her place, the scenario would have been different.
“Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies. If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you’re rail thin, cool. If you have a dad bod, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it! Everybody’s happy with it. You know why? Because girls are nice. They don’t give a f*** because we see people for who they are,” said the singer.
Around a week back, this statement made its way to X, where it received mixed reviews. Some stood in support of the singer, while others didn’t agree with her stance and hit back at her comment.

An internet user described Billie Eilish’s comments as “a little tone deaf.” The netizen believes both men and women could be judged.
At the same time, several other internet users mentioned that though it is a fact that women were more likely to receive criticism, it is not right to suggest that men didn’t receive any. The intensity at which a female body is judged is high and widespread but at the same
time, even males are picked on their height, body shape, and general appearance.

This latest comment also brought back the memories of another Eilish interview. Back in 2019, on Pitchfork’s YouTube channel, the singer criticized women for dating ugly men. “Why is every pretty girl with a horrible-looking man, I don’t understand,” she said.
Several took screenshots of that interview and recirculated the same on social media.
