NEW DELHI: BJP leader Kishor
Makwana
has been
appointed
as the new
chairperson
of the
National Commission for Scheduled Castes
. Makwana is a spokesperson of the Gujarat unit of BJP. He is also a journalist, author and a columnist.
Along with Makwana’s appointment, President Droupadi Murmu has also approved the appointment of two new
members
Love Kush Kumar from Bijnor in UP and Vaddepalli Ramchander from Telangana. The tenure of the Commission is three years and this is the 7th Commission.
In an order issued on Saturday, the ministry of social justice and empowerment said Murmu has approved and signed the warrant of Makwana’s appointment to the post of chairperson in the NCSC. “You are requested to assume charge of the post in
NCSC
,” the order addressed to Makwana added.
Last year in Aug, then chairman Vijay Sampla resigned from NCSC. Arun Halder who was vice chairman at that time then assumed charge as acting chairman and held the position till Feb 18 when his tenure came to an end. The tenure of two other members of the 6th Commission also ended in Feb.
The NCSC is supposed to have a chairperson, vice chairman and three members. With the three appointments announced on Saturday, now the new Commission has a chairperson and two members.
President Murmu has approved the appointment of new members Love Kush Kumar from UP and Vaddepalli Ramchander from Telangana.
