Celebs who took multiple retakes for kissing scenes

Kissing scenes in movies often appear effortlessly intimate on screen, but behind the scenes, they can be anything but romantic. Several actors have shared their experiences when it comes to puckering up with their co-stars. From Leonardo DiCaprio to Kartik Aaryan, here’s a list of celebs who shared a mix of humour and frustration while shooting multiple retakes for such scenes.

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s romantic lip lock as Jack and Rose, in James Cameron’s blockbuster Titanic is iconic. However, the reality of filming these scenes was far from romantic. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Winslet revealed that shooting the famous kissing scene with DiCaprio was challenging because he “couldn’t stop laughing.” The scene had to be re-shot about four times as director Cameron wanted a specific light, but the sunsets kept changing during filming.

Kota Factory actor Jitendra Kumar surprised all when he revealed in a candid chat that his kissing scene with Ayushmann Khurrana in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan required three retakes. Despite the minimal retakes, the scene garnered significant attention for its progressive portrayal of same-sex love in mainstream Bollywood.

Actress Nargis Fakhri found it “ridiculous” to do multiple retakes of kissing scenes with co-star Emraan Hashmi in the film Azhar. Fakhri, who admitted to feeling awkward while filming intimate scenes, humorously suggested she should charge extra for the numerous retakes.

Kartik Aaryan faced considerable difficulty while filming a kissing scene in Kaanchi: The Unbreakable. The actor, who co-starred with Mishti, had to redo the kiss 37 times. Aaryan humorously recalled in an interview, “Maybe, Mishti deliberately kept making mistakes (laughing). Subhashji wanted a passionate kiss. I didn’t know how to kiss.”

Reema Sen, who played a journalist in Society, had to go through 30 retakes to perfect a simple peck on the cheek. Sen took the retakes in stride, laughing off the experience and noting that it wasn’t a big deal because it wasn’t an intimate kiss.

The memorable kissing scene between Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan in Raja Hindustani took an astonishing three days to shoot and reportedly required 47 retakes to achieve perfection. Kapoor later shared that both she and Khan were eager for the scene to end soon, as it was shot in the chilly hills of Ooty.

Unlike the others on this list, Rajkummar Rao had to shoot a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation scene with veteran actress Kamlesh Gill for a scene in Behen Hogi Teri. Rao found it difficult to control his laughter, resulting in 18 retakes. At one point, he even kissed Gill, leaving the entire crew in howling with laughter.
