From Twitter to White House: Elon Musk recreates his ‘Sink Moment’ to celebrate Donald Trump win

Elon Musk and Donald Trump

With Donald Trump set to become the 47th President of the US, tech billionaire Elon Musk is riding a wave of excitement. The Tesla CEO, who has openly endorsed Trump, took to X, his own microblogging platform, to share his enthusiasm through a series of posts, including a meme that brings back the memories of his Twitter purchase in 2021.
“Let that sink in,” his post read with an edited photo of him carrying a sink with the

in the background. The Oval Office is the formal working space of the President of the US.

Why is “Let that sink in” so popular

The phrase became ‘famous’ because it has a literal connection to the video of Musk carrying a sink to Twitter headquarters after his successful acquisition of the company in 2022. It also carries a figurative meaning, implying a deeper message about his takeover of Twitter.
The video is also seen as a symbol of Musk “bringing in change” or “cleaning up” the platform. The first thing he did after his $44 billion purchase of the microblogging website is to fire all the executives with immediate effect.

Musk also marked the second anniversary of his dramatic acquisition of Twitter sharing the same video on X that showed him carrying a sink through the company’s headquarters. On October 28, 2022, the deal was sealed, and Musk officially became the owner and CEO of Twitter.

“Let that sink in” – connection with Trump’s 2024 win

Trump in an interview said that if he wins, Musk stands a chance to hold a post in the US government – possibly as “Secretary of Cost-Cutting”.
“We’ll have a new position: Secretary of Cost-Cutting. Elon wants to do that, and we have incredible people. He’s running a big business. He can’t just say, ‘I think I’ll go into the Cabinet.’ Other people can. He can’t, but Elon’s a little bit different in that sense,” Trump said while speaking in the interview.
