. The 69-year-old

cancer warrior

breathed her last on Monday night at St. Joseph, Missouri, as confirmed by Eminem’s representative to People.
The news of Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson’s demise came months after multiple media outlets reported that she was terminally ill and didn’t have a lot of time on her hands.
According to Touch Magazin, a couple of months back, a source close to the veteran rapper mentioned, “She is terminally ill with advanced lung cancer. There are not many options [for Debbie]. She is currently staying between the cancer center and with family members. She has a very limited amount of time [left],” the source added.
Debbie Nelson, an established author, was born in 1955 to Betty Hixson and Bob Nelson in Kansas. In her 2008 memoir, ‘My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,’ she mentioned being raised in a large dysfunctional family. She was only 10 when her parents divorced, leaving her in charge of a family of five as she was the oldest.

She got married at the young age of 16 to Marshal Bruce Mathers Jr, and two years later she gave birth to Eminem. Reportedly, her relationship with her son, for lack of a better word can be described as tumultuous.
Things took an uglier turn when in his song titled ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet,’ Eminem accused his mother of neglect and drug use. The late author denied the allegation and responded by filing a $10 million defamation lawsuit against him in 1999.

Fortunately, some years later the two decided to barry the hatchet. In 2013, Eminem with his song ‘Headlights’, apologised for his earlier criticisms. He also expressed regret for turning to bring the issues he had with his mother into the public eye and acknowledged her struggles. “I don’t hate you ‘cause, Ma / You’re still beautiful to me,” he sang.
In 2022, Nelson showed public support for her son. In a now-deleted video, she expressed her pride in his success, saying, “I knew you’d get there. It’s been a long ride. I’m very, very proud of you.”
