Kangana Ranaut is finally making her journey from the silver screen to the political arena. The actress hit the headlines on Sunday night after she received a BJP ticket to contest the
Lok Sabha elections
from Himachal Pradesh‘s
Mandi
constituency.
Expressing her gratitude upon being named in the candidate list, Ranaut took to her social media platforms, to put out a statement that read, “My beloved Bharat and
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) always had my unconditional support.
Today, the national leadership of BJP has announced me as their Lok Sabha candidate from my birthplace Himachal Pradesh, Mandi (constituency).”
Ranaut affirmed her commitment to the party’s decision, and emphasized her dedication to serving as a diligent party worker. “I abide by the high command’s decision on contesting Lok Sabha polls. I feel honoured and elated to officially join the party and look forward to being a worthy karyakarta and a reliable public servant,” she wrote.
As news of Ranaut’s candidacy spread, an old tweet from March 2021 resurfaced online, seemingly predicting her entry into politics—a cliam she had previously denied. Speculations about her political aspirations had been circulating since 2021, with rumours suggesting her potential candidacy for the Lok Sabha polls.
A Twitter user tagged her in a post that read, “Mark my tweet! @KanganaTeam will fight by election from Mandi Lok Sabha Constituency.”
In response to a tweet suggesting her involvement in
politics
, Ranaut had expressed her interest in contesting elections in a ‘state with complexities’, so that she could work on them and “be the Queen I am,” she said.
In her reply to the tweet, the actress wrote, “I was given the option of Gwalior during 2019 Loksabha elections, HP population is hardly 60/70 lakhs, no poverty/crime. If I get in to politics I want a state with complexities I can work on and be the Queen I am in that field also.”
However, a year later, the actress publically declared in October 2022, her openness to contest from Mandi if offered a ticket by the BJP.
