NEW DELHI: The opposition
INDIA bloc
is set to organize a large gathering, termed a ‘
maha rally
‘, at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on March 31 to protect the nation’s interests and democratic values, as per
AAP
leader Gopal Rai.
This decision follows the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his official residence in connection with a money-laundering case related to excise policy.
The AAP national convenor has been remanded to the custody of the central agency until March 28 by a court ruling on Friday. INDIA bloc allies AAP and Congress jointly announced the upcoming rally during a press conference, emphasizing the need to address the current state of affairs in the country.
“We are organizing a ‘maha rally’ at Ramlila Maidan on March 31 to counter the ongoing challenges faced by our democracy and nation. The key leaders of the INDIA bloc will actively participate in this event,” stated Rai.
Arvinder Singh Lovely, Delhi unit chief of Congress, raised concerns about the lack of fair play for opposition parties, citing the freezing of accounts and the arrest of a chief minister.
He stressed that the March 31 ‘maha rally’ aims not only for political expression but also to champion democracy and oppose the ruling BJP-led government at the center.
