iPhone manufacturer Foxconn may begin making AI servers in India

iPhone

manufacturer

Foxconn

is looking to manufacture artificial intelligence (AI) servers in India, according to a report by the Economic Times. This move would mark a significant expansion for the

Taiwanese company

, which is best known for assembling iPhones in the country.
AI servers

are powerful computers used to train and run artificial intelligence models.

The Economic Times reports that Foxconn will likely use its existing factories in Tamil Nadu for this new venture.
This expansion comes as Foxconn aims to

diversify

its business beyond smartphones. The company’s chairman, Young Liu, recently said that AI servers could soon become Foxconn’s “next-trillion revenue product.”
The move aligns with India’s efforts to become a global manufacturing hub. It also fits with Foxconn’s strategy to reduce its reliance on China for production.

Industry experts quoted by the ET suggest that making AI servers in India is a logical next step for Foxconn. The company expects its global market share for AI servers to grow from 30% to 40% this year.
Foxconn already builds AI servers for major tech companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia. By manufacturing these products in India, the company could take advantage of government incentives aimed at boosting local production.

In recent months, Foxconn has been increasing its investments in India. The company is reportedly in talks with Google to manufacture Pixel smartphones in Tamil Nadu as well. The company has also explored the possibilities of manufacturing drones for Google’s Wing.
However, Foxconn has faced some challenges in India. The company recently had to clarify its hiring practices after reports of discrimination against married women at its Chennai plant. The Indian government has asked for a detailed report on the matter.
As of now, Foxconn has not officially commented on the AI server manufacturing plans. If confirmed, this expansion into AI server production could significantly boost Foxconn’s presence in India and further diversify its manufacturing capabilities in the country.
