Sharing details about encounter, Police said, “On Tuesday at about 2235 hrs, firing incident occurred in between police and gangsters near GMC Kathua as a result one PSI Deepak Sharma received head injuries and SPO Anil Kumar (Both Posted at P/S Ramgarh) Samba got injured.”
“One gangster Vasudev was killed in the encounter, ” police said, adding, “The Injured police officer shifted from GMC Kathua to Amandeep Hospital, Pathankot for treatment.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that “every drop of the blood of our martyr will be avenged” after the Probationary Sub-Inspector, Deepak Sharma, who suffered severe head injuries during an encounter with a gangster in Kathua region, died during treatment.

In a post on X, LG Manoj Sinha wrote, I salute the valour & indomitable courage of PSI Deepak Sharma, who made supreme sacrifice while valiantly fighting & neutralising a most wanted gangster in Kathua. His supreme sacrifice will remain etched in our hearts. Deepest condolences to the family of martyr Deepak Sharma.
“The nation stands in solidarity with the martyr’s family & @JmuKmrPolice, whose dedication, resilience & courage in battling a variety of challenges & adversaries continue to inspire us. Every drop of blood of our martyr will be avenged and we are committed to create a fear-free J&K,” Lt Governor added on X.

Hailing the bravery and unwavering courage of PSI Deepak Sharma, the DGP, J&K Sh. R.R. Swain in his message has said that, the supreme sacrifice of PSI Deepak Sharma will forever be remembered by the nation and particularly by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“On behalf of JK Police pariwar and personally DGP J&K has expressed deepest sympathies to the family of martyr Deepak Sharma.”
“J&K Police stands united in support of the martyr’s family, whose commitment and valour will continue to motivate us.” the DGP J&K has said in his message.
A wreath laying ceremony of Martyr PSI Deepak Sharma was held in District Police Lines (DPL) Samba today at 1100 hrs where senior police and administrative officials paid their homage to the police martyr.
