Jimmy Shergill REVEALS why he dropped his 'chocolate boy' image on screen: 'Yeh naach gaana karta raha toh...'

We all have known and loved

Jimmy Shergill

as the charming boy-next-door in films like ‘Mohabbatein’ and ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’. The actor has now revealed why he consciously opted to alter his onscreen persona.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Jimmy revealed that he transitioned to more rugged and intense roles. The actor shared that this shift was a deliberate choice to avoid being

and to sustain his career in the long run.
To break free from his romantic image, Jimmy chose offbeat roles in diverse films. He appeared in impactful projects like

Haasil

,

Munnabhai MBBS

, A Wednesday, and Tanu Weds Manu. He consciously adopted a more natural, unpolished look, embracing a rugged persona. Reflecting on this transformation, Jimmy noted that while his hardened appearance became his signature, he now faces the challenge of rediscovering the innocence that marked his early roles.

The actor also shared that to support new directors, he sometimes took on more work than he could handle. He believes in giving fresh talent a chance, especially when the script is interesting, and tries to be flexible with his schedule, understanding that new filmmakers often have limited budgets. However, he’s faced situations where the filmmaking doesn’t match the story, like shooting in the wrong locations. Despite these challenges, he believes in not letting a few mistakes ruin the entire film or affect the crew.
