Kangana Ranaut is a prominent figure in Indian cinema, known not only for her acting skills but also for her outspoken nature and willingness to engage in discussions. Over the years, Kangana has built a reputation for being unafraid to voice her opinions, often sparking debates on various social and political issues.
In a recent Instagram post remembering J Jayalalithaa and marking the third anniversary of her film ‘
Thalaivii
,’ Kangana reflected on the struggles women face daily.
She stated, “Every woman who is on her own has to fight a battle every day; she doesn’t get the luxury of being weak or even weep. She goes on without any appreciation or acknowledgement.” This sentiment underscores her belief in the resilience of women and their ability to confront adversity head-on.
Kangana’s comments come at a time when her upcoming film ‘Emergency’ has faced significant scrutiny. Originally set to release on September 6, the film’s release was postponed due to pending certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and rising calls for a boycott from various Sikh organizations. These groups have accused the film of misrepresenting the Sikh community and distorting historical facts related to the Emergency period and the subsequent events leading to Indira Gandhi‘s assassination.
In an interview with ETimes, Kangana had opened up about the challenges she faced while filming ‘Emergency’ and said, “We faced a lot of problems with the international crew, especially with COVID-19, which was ongoing at the time. When COVID was diagnosed, the whole set would get sealed. Then, we were shooting in Assam, and there were floods there. So, we had to face all kinds of challenges. But, we didn’t compromise on quality.”
Despite the backlash, Kangana remains steadfast in her commitment to telling the story she believes needs to be told.
