Maha man burns wife, 2 minor daughters alive in locked house

NASHIK: A 45-year-old farmer

killed

his wife and two

daughters

– a 14-year-old and a toddler – by trapping them in their home and setting it ablaze in an Ahmednagar village on Monday morning.
Police have

arrested

the farmer, identified as

Sunil Landge

. The incident took place at Pimpalgaon Landga village. The victims have been identified as his wife Lalita, 35, and children Sakshi, 14, and Khushi, 1. They were all charred to death.
Assistant inspector Pralhad Gite said, “At 10.30am, Sunil Landge bolted his house from the outside and poured petrol in through the window. He then set the house ablaze.” “By the time the neighbours heard the screams of the woman and children trapped inside, the house was up in flames,” the officer added.
Sunil did not attempt to escape and stayed put at the spot until the police arrived. Sunil has three other children – two daughters and a son – who live with his elder brother and mother, about 100m from his own house.

Gite said, according to information gathered from the villagers, the accused doubted his wife’s character and would often assault her. On Saturday night, Sunil had quarrelled with his wife. Upset, he locked up Lalita, Sakshi and Khushi in the house and went over to his relatives’ place to tell them about the quarrel. However, no one took it seriously, as such rows were a regular affair.
On Monday morning, Sunil returned with a petrol can and set the house ablaze with the trio inside.
