This day holds deep spiritual significance in Hindu mythology as it is celebrated on the 14th night of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalguna Maas.

Shivratri also marks the night of the divine marriage between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolizing the union of cosmic energies. Well, if you too are planning to observe fasts on this auspicious day, then here are some easy-to-make foods that can be offered to Lord Shiva and later relished as a prasad.

Sabudana Khichdi
Soak sabudana in water for a few hours until they soften. Heat ghee in a pan and temper with cumin seeds, green chilies, and chopped ginger. Add soaked sabudana, roasted peanuts, boiled and cubed potatoes, and rock salt (sendha namak). Cook until sabudana pearls turn translucent and everything is well combined. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Aloo Tamatar Sabzi
Heat ghee or oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Add boiled and cubed potatoes, chopped tomatoes, green chilies, and spices like rock salt, black pepper, and cumin powder. Cook until tomatoes soften and the curry thickens. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with vrat-friendly roti or puri.

Kuttu Ka Dosa
Make a batter using kuttu (buckwheat) flour, water, grated potatoes, chopped green chilies, rock salt, and chopped coriander leaves. Heat a non-stick pan and pour a ladleful of batter onto it, spreading it in a circular motion to make thin dosas. Drizzle ghee around the edges and cook until the dosa turns golden brown on both sides. Serve hot with virat-friendly chutney or yogurt.
Singhare Atta Poori
Mix singhare ka atta (water chestnut flour) with boiled and mashed potatoes, rock salt, and a little water to make a soft dough. Divide the dough into small balls and roll out into puris. Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the puris until they puff up and turn golden brown. Serve hot with virat-friendly curry or yogurt.

Sama Rice Pulao
Wash and soak sama rice for half an hour. Heat ghee in a pan and temper with cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon, and bay leaves. Add soaked sama rice, boiled potato cubes, green peas, chopped carrots, rock salt, and water. Cook until the rice is tender and all the water is absorbed.Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
