has now turned his attention to his long stuck film
Maidaan
where he plays the role of
Syed Abdul Rahim
, legendary architect of Indian football. Paired opposite him is south actress
Priyamani
who was last seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. But it was earlier reported that another south actress Keerthi Shetty was supposed to be part of the film, but things didn’t work out.
It was then speculated that she decided to opt out of the film because of age issues.
But in an interview with News18, director Amit Ravindernath Sharma has revealed the true reason behind Keerthy’s exit from the film. He stated that he had a certain look in mind for Rahim’s wife and Keerthy had lost a lot of weight. Post that she wasn’t the right fit for the character, and everyone realized that someone else would be better. Maidaan is releasing on Eid with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
Keerthy will now be making her debut in Hindi films with
Varun Dhawan

, which is the Hindi remake of Tamil hit film Theri which was directed by Atlee. Varun’s film is being produced by Atlee and directed by Kalees, Atlee’s assistant.
