incident took place on May 15, the college administration took action against the accused students on Tuesday after receiving a communication from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The victim had filed a complaint with NMC’s anti-ragging cell.
“On June 20, we received an email from NMC regarding a ragging complaint by the student. It was forwarded to the anti-ragging committee on June 22, which investigated the matter and confirmed the incident had taken place. Following the Supreme Court guidelines and based on the recommendation of the anti-ragging committee, we filed an FIR against seven accused students,” college principal Dr Balamuruganvelu S told TOI.
According to the complaint, the accused took the first-year student outside the college campus to a hilly spot one-and-a-half km away, where they made him do the push-ups in blazing heat, resulting in severe dehydration. He was admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad for seven days and underwent dialysis four times.

Based on the principal’s complaint, the accused have been booked under multiple IPC sections, including 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 149 (offence committed in prosecution of common object), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 352 (assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation). They have also been suspended from all academic activities till further orders.
The police had recorded the statements of the victim and the seven accused students, said Dungarpur Sadar police station SHO Girdhari Singh.
