Microsoft’s AI Reading Coach is now free, here’s what it is, how to use, and more

Microsoft

is making its AI-powered tool, Reading Coach, which provides personalised reading practice to learners, available for free.

Reading Coach

will now be available as a separate app to assist students in improving their literacy skills.
The app is using artificial intelligence to give personalised feedback on reading scores and offer specific suggestions to improve pronunciation.

is available on the web for free. It also offers specific suggestions on how to improve pronunciation.
The app helps learners improve their reading skills by identifying challenging words and providing customised practice tools. It gamifies reading by unlocking new story settings, characters, and badges as students progress. Learners can track their achievements on an achievement page to see their progress and accumulated badges. Additionally,

Teachers

can track student progress and the AI tool recommends targeted practice based on the student’s needs.
To keep students engaged, Reading Coach also offers generative AI to create personalised stories. Students can choose their protagonist, genre, setting, and reading level to generate a unique story. As they read, the AI provides feedback on pronunciation and prompts to alter the story’s progression.

The Reading Coach is available on the web at at coach.microsoft.com, as of now, and will also be available as a

Windows

app soon. By late spring, Microsoft plans to open up third-party integration, so that teachers can use the app with their learning management systems.
Microsoft says that it has implemented guardrails to moderate the story for quality, safety, and age appropriateness to maintain a student-friendly platform.
Teams for Education is also adding new AI-powered features to help educators create tailored content for digital learning platforms. The

Classwork

tool emphasises messages in assignments based on a teacher’s lesson goals, while the Assignments tool streamlines rubric generation and allows for personalised outlines based on grade level and evaluation scale.
