Minor Ayodhya gangrape survivor undergoes MTP

LUCKNOW/AYODHYA: The 12-year-old gangrape survivor from Ayodhya underwent a medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) procedure at

Queen Mary’s Hospital

in Lucknow on Tuesday.
She was 12 weeks pregnant. Legally, abortions can be performed up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, according to a Supreme Court order. After her medical examination, the

abortion

was done on Tuesday.

The girl’s condition is stable, and she is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.
Sarvesh Awasthi, president of the Ayodhya Child Welfare Committee, said the survivor’s family had given written consent to them for the abortion.
KGMU administration, under which Queen Mary’s Hospital comes, refused to comment on the matter, citing the privacy of the girl and her family. The girl, who was admitted to a hospital in Ayodhya, was referred to Lucknow for treatment on Monday.

Samajwadi Party functionary Moeed Khan and his househelp Raju Khan had been named as accused in the case and were arrested on 30 July. The survivor was employed as a daily wager at Khan’s home and was allegedly gangraped by him and Raju for over two months.
Ayodhya police have also started legal proceedings to get the DNA tests of the accused done. “DNA tests will provide conclusive evidence. Therefore, the legal process has been started,” said a senior police officer in Ayodhya. “Even if the DNA of one of the accused matches with the foetus, then action will be taken against both accused. After investigation, a chargesheet will be filed in the court,” he added.
The Ayodhya administration demolished the bakery of Moeed Khan on July 31 after its construction was found illegal.
