Over two years after the makers unveiled the title poster of the forthcoming prequel to the 2019 blockbuster hit, ‘The Lion King’, the makers on Thursday, shared the first look of Mufasa taking his place on top of a rock.
The prequel promises to delve into the origins of the iconic Disney character, Mufasa, shedding light on his upbringing alongside his brother, Scar.
Actors
Aaron Pierre

Kelvin Harrison Jr.
will lend their voices to the characters of Mufasa and Scar, respectively.
Jeremy Irons
and
Chiwetel Ejiofor
will lend their voice to the film.
“Mufasa” marks a significant addition to the beloved franchise. ‘The Lion King’ stands as one of the most cherished and iconic animated movies. The film not only earned critical acclaim but also went on to become a box office blockbuster, amassing over $960 million.
This film comes 5 years after 2019’s live-action remake was met with mixed reviews from critics. Despite the criticism, the film grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
Attendees at the D23 Expo 2022, were treated to an exclusive preview of the film, which commenced with the venerable Rafiki, voiced by John Kani, recounting Mufasa’s origin tale to a captive audience of young cubs.
The footage unveiled Mufasa’s humble beginnings as an orphaned cub, navigating a harsh desert landscape until destiny led him to Pride Rock.
For Jenkins, ‘Mufasa’ represents his third directorial venture, following the critically acclaimed ‘Moonlight’ and ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’.
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is slated for its release on December 20.
