This film comes 5 years after 2019’s live-action remake was met with mixed reviews from critics. Despite the criticism, the film grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
Attendees at the D23 Expo 2022, were treated to an exclusive preview of the film, which commenced with the venerable Rafiki, voiced by John Kani, recounting Mufasa’s origin tale to a captive audience of young cubs.
The footage unveiled Mufasa’s humble beginnings as an orphaned cub, navigating a harsh desert landscape until destiny led him to Pride Rock.
For Jenkins, ‘Mufasa’ represents his third directorial venture, following the critically acclaimed ‘Moonlight’ and ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’.
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is slated for its release on December 20.
