NEW DELHI: The National Law University (NLU) Delhi has revised the eligibility criteria for the All India

Law Entrance Test

(AILET) 2025, significantly reducing the qualifying percentages for its flagship LLM programmes. This change impacts both the one-year LLM (non-residential) programme and the joint Master of Laws (LLM) in Intellectual Property Law and Management.
Revised Eligibility Criteria for One-Year LLM Programme
To be eligible for the one-year LLM programme at

or an equivalent degree from a recognised university with at least 50% marks in aggregate. For candidates from the SC/ST and Persons with Disability categories, the qualifying percentage has been set at 45%, providing a more inclusive pathway to legal education.
Foreign nationals seeking admission into the LLM programme must meet additional criteria. They need to have an academic record of at least 55% or an equivalent grade in their LL.B. degree, as recognised by the UGC or Association of Indian Universities. Furthermore, foreign candidates will also undergo an assessment of their written and spoken English communication skills, followed by an interview to evaluate their aptitude and capacity for the programme.

LLM in Intellectual Property Law and Management
For those interested in pursuing the LLM in Intellectual Property Law and Management, the eligibility criteria are similar. Applicants must have completed an LL.B. or equivalent degree from a recognised university, with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates in their final year of the LL.B. programme, set to graduate in 2025, are also eligible to apply.
The other eligibility requirements for both LLM programmes remain unchanged. This revision primarily seeks to broaden access to advanced legal studies for a wider range of students, ensuring a diverse cohort.

Application Timeline and AILET 2025 Examination Date
The application process for AILET 2025 began on August 1, 2024, and will continue until November 18, 2024. Eligible and interested candidates can apply for the BA LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons), LLM, and PhD programmes through the official website of NLU Delhi at nationallawuniversitydelhi.in.
The AILET 2025 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The entrance test will be conducted for undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes, making it a crucial examination for law aspirants across India.
AILET 2025 Examination Pattern
The exam format for the LLM programme under AILET 2025 will be entirely based on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The test will feature 100 MCQs, each carrying one mark, covering various branches of law. The duration of the exam will be 120 minutes.
NLU Delhi has introduced a negative marking scheme for AILET 2025. For every four incorrect answers, one mark will be deducted (0.25 marks per wrong answer). This format encourages careful answering and ensures a more accurate assessment of the candidates’ legal knowledge.
In the event of a tie in the AILET scores between two or more candidates, the university will consider the candidates’ age, with preference given to the older candidate. If a tie still remains, a computerised draw of lots will be used to determine the merit list.
