Nolan paid $100 MILLION for ‘Oppenheimer’?

Christopher Nolan‘s ‘

Oppenheimer

‘ emerged as the big winner at the 96th Academy Awards. The film took home 7

Oscars

, not only securing Nolan a spot in the winner’s circle but also clinching the coveted title of Best Picture.
Now, new reports indicate that the director not only struck gold at the award shows but also literally hit the jackpot with his huge paycheque for the film.

Variety reports that Nolan’s compensation for his involvement in the film stands at just under $100 million. According to the report, this substantial earning includes his director’s salary, backend compensation, box-office escalators, and a bonus in recognition of his dual Oscar triumph.
‘Oppenheimer’, which hit theatres in July 2023, garnered an impressive $958 million at the global box office during its lifetime run in theatres.

While the director walked away with the huge paycheque, it was reported that the film’s cast earned significantly less. Reportedly, leading man

Cillian Murphy

earned $10 million for his portrayal of Robert J. Oppenheimer. His earnings were far more than his co-stars like

Robert Downey Jr.

,

Emily Blunt

, and

Matt Damon

, who each received $4 million for their respective roles.
Florence Pugh

secured the next highest paycheck, earning $1 million for her portrayal of Oppenheimer’s lover, Jean Tatlock.

While specific salary details for most of the supporting cast remain undisclosed, there are reports shedding light on compensation for a few key players. According to ComingSoon, Benny Safdie, who portrayed Edward Teller, the “father of the hydrogen bomb,” earned $700,000. Michael Angarano reportedly received $500,000 for his minor role as Manhattan Project physicist Robert Serber, despite limited screen time. In contrast,

Josh Hartnett

‘s compensation for his role in the film was reportedly lower, at $400,000.

The movie reportedly had a budget of $180 million.
