NEW DELHI: In a historic achievement, New Zealand triumphed over India by 113 runs in the second Test match held in Pune, clinching their maiden Test series win on Indian soil.
Glenn Phillips, reflecting on this remarkable feat, expressed the indescribable nature of the moment, recognizing the immense challenge of facing India in their home conditions.
“For us to achieve this for the first time is indescribable,” said Phillips after the match.
“It has been incredibly tough competing with the Indian boys on their home turf. We tried to learn, adapt, and play more positively in these conditions. Seeing it pay off like this feels amazing,” he added.
Phillips acknowledged that his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) contributed to his adaptation to Indian pitches, although he emphasized that truly mastering the conditions requires more than just IPL exposure.

“It does get easier,” he remarked, “but you can never fully learn the conditions until you’re actually here.”
The standout performer of the second Test in Pune was undeniably Mitchell Santner, whose exceptional bowling display, which included two five-wicket hauls, showcased his control and skill on a dry, spin-conducive surface.
Phillips commended Santner’s bowling prowess, stating, “At the end of the day, Mitch was bowling absolutely brilliantly. Our focus was to hold up the other end and let him do his thing.”
