Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari expressed cautious optimism about the prospect of a ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, despite negotiations being far from reaching an agreement. Despite ongoing talks involving US, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators, the Muslim holy month of Ramadan commenced without the desired truce and hostage exchange. Al-Ansari highlighted the challenges, stating that both sides have yet to find common ground on key issues. Efforts are underway to reach a resolution within the confines of Ramadan, although no specific timeline was provided. Qatar remains committed to establishing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza rather than a short-term truce. The situation on the ground remains complex, with tensions stemming from the conflict initiated by Hamas’s attack on Israel in October.
