Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 first impressions: Going tough

Samsung

launched the Galaxy XCover 7 smartphone in India last month. Touted as the perfect blend of military-grade durability and productivity, the smartphone comes with 5G and an increased touch sensitivity. Here’s our first impressions of Samsung’s first-ever enterprise-exclusive smartphone in the country.
Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 price
The Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 smartphone comes in two editions – Standard and Enterprise, with a price tag of Rs 27,208 and Rs 27,530, respectively.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 design

The Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 is opposite to what we expect from Samsung smartphones in this price range. There is a hard polycarbonate shell on the back that protects the internals of the phone. The Galaxy XCover7 is said to meet military-grade durability (MIL-STD-810H1) standards and is said to have been tested to ensure it withstands severe weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and rain.
The phone is IP68-rated for dust and water-resistance and can also withstand drops of up to 1.5 metre, Samsung claims.

The phone comes with a 6.6-inch full-HD TFT display with 20:9 aspect ratio and 60Hz refresh rate protected by a fortified glass. While it may not be a screen that we are used to seeing, incorporating it in a smartphone that will be used mostly outside makes sense. As per Samsung, the phone can be used even with the gloves on.
The phone comes with a programmable key for customisable shortcuts like push-to-talk, barcode scanning, and quick access to specific applications. The phone offers a 3,950mAh replaceable battery, and since it is designed for use at places such as construction sites, users can quickly replace the battery so there is no waiting for charging the depleted one.

Camera and software
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 comes with a single rear camera optimised for single and multiple barcode/QR code scanning and expanded display size and resolution. The device sports a 50MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 runs on Android 14-based Samsung OneUI 6.0. It comes with Knox Vault that can protect the critical data in a separate, tamper-resistant hardware. The phone offers 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of internal memory, expandable up to 1TB via microSD card.
What we think
The Samsung Galaxy XCover 7 is specifically designed for those who need a rugged no-fuss smartphone. It is a simple-looking smartphone that comes with all essentials, a tough body to withstand falls and Samsung’s reliability. We’ll talk about the phone more in detail in our review.
