Siddhant reveals he rejected Brahmastra; was blacklisted

Siddhant Chaturvedi

, who made a mark with his performance in his debut movie, ”

Gully Boy

‘, alongside

Ranveer Singh

, recently revealed that he encountered harsh criticism from the casting community due to his decision to opt out of the film ‘

Brahmastra

Part 1: Shiva.’
The 2022 blockbuster film ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ underwent production for several years before its eventual release.

Siddhant was offered a role as one of the superheroes in this Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Siddhant revealed that due to the absence of a script or sufficient information for him to work with, he felt uncertain about his role in Brahmastra.

A month before ‘Gully Boy,’ Siddhant Chaturvedi found himself in a significant moment. He was offered a role in a major film, which eventually became a blockbuster. The opportunity came through a casting director, but there was a catch – there was no script or audition for the part. The film was described as an action fantasy with elements of martial arts, and Siddhant was offered a role as one of the superheroes. However, with no clear vision or information about the project’s development, he felt uncertain. The film was projected to be VFX-heavy and would take about five years to complete.

Prior to ‘Gully Boy,’ Siddhant faced a pivotal moment when offered a role in a significant film, which eventually turned out to be a blockbuster. This opportunity, presented through a casting director, came with certain uncertainties – there was neither a script nor an audition for the part. Described as an action fantasy involving martial arts, Siddhant was offered a role as one of the superheroes.
However, lacking clarity about the project’s vision and development, he felt hesitant. The film, which was projected to be VFX-heavy and would take about five years to complete, involved a meeting with the main director and a renowned production house. It also entailed a three-film deal, with Siddhant expressing his eagerness to understand the role better through a script, which was not available at the time due to the project being in its nascent stages. Amidst long lines of audition hopefuls, Siddhant found himself grappling with the decision.

The actor explained that when he expressed his inability to take up the role, the casting director reacted strongly, emphasizing the association with

Dharma Productions

and the three-film contract. Siddhant voiced his concern, questioning the visibility he would receive in a film featuring Amitabh Bachchan,

Ranbir Kapoor

, and

Alia Bhatt

. He felt it was essential to have at least a couple of lines of dialogue to grasp his character’s essence in the film.
He went on to explain that he was

blacklisted

from the casting circuit because of his decision, with many in the industry perceiving him as unpredictable for turning down such an opportunity. This tarnished his reputation, with people questioning his attitude. However, Siddhant believes that everything unfolded for the best, as the film took considerable time to materialize, and by then, he had already found success with ‘Gully Boy.’ Ultimately, the character he was offered in ‘Brahmastra’ was seemingly edited out of the film, validating his decision in retrospect.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Siddhant Chaturvedi will soon be seen in ‘Yudhra’.
