Nikkhil Advani reveals Shah Rukh Khan was disappointed with his helicopter entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham due to more focus on Jaya Bachchan: 'SRK hates love stories'

Filmmaker Nikkhil Advani recently shared intriguing insights about Shah Rukh Khan‘s approach to romantic films, revealing that despite being celebrated as the ‘

King of Romance

,’ SRK actually hates love stories. Advani, who worked with SRK as an assistant director on

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

(1998), Mohabbatein (2000),

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

(2001), and as director of Kal Ho Na Ho (2003), discussed this surprising revelation on Cyrus Says.
Advani said, “Shah Rukh and I used to have these conversations so many times that ‘Karan and Adi only do love story, let us do something different.’ Shah Rukh hates love stories. Considering that he is known as King Khan and King of romance, this and that, but he hates love stories. Dil Se is his favourite film.” He added that SRK frequently praised sequences from thrillers like Hey Ram, Darr, and Ram Jaane, rather than his more famous romantic roles.
“Shah Rukh Khan had this habit. Every time, Karan or Adi would make him hear a new song and tell him their plans of shooting it in Switzerland and stuff, he would always come back and call the other film better. He used to constantly do that,” he added.

The filmmaker also noted SRK’s unique ‘thrills’ credit in some films. “In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie

Gham, he received credit for ‘thrills’ because he treated scenes like the basketball sequence as action, even choreographing it himself,” he shared.
One humorous memory Advani recalled was SRK’s disappointment to his helicopter entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. He said, “When we told him that his entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is with the helicopter. He thought he is going to jump off the helicopter, while he just had to step down. The scene was more about Jaya Bachchan that she gets to know about the arrival of her son as soon as he touches the ground.”

Meanwhile, SRK is set to appear in Sujoy Ghosh’s King, touted to be an action film featuring his daughter Suhana Khan. It also stars Abhishek Bachchan in a pivotal role.
