For the Bengali community in Pune, Mahalaya serves as an opportunity to reconnect with their roots, blending religious fervour with cultural expressions, all while eagerly anticipating the grand Durga Puja celebrations. It’s a day that marks the descent of Goddess Durga to the Earth. To commemorate this day, the Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad in Bhosale Nagar hosted a prominent celebration on Sunday morning where families gathered to witness the rendition of Mahishasura Mardini Stotram, which was recorded by the late radio broadcaster, Birendra Krishna Bhadra.Adding to the fervour were the women dressed in traditional red and white saris. As a befitting end to the event, they performed dhunuchi naach to the beats of dhak.
