In October 2021, Dhruv Agarwala was on a trip to India when he experienced a heart attack like heart burn. “My heart was racing, I had palpitations. I felt I was going to die,” he told the media outlet after which he checked himself into a hospital. “I kept thinking ‘One day I will lose weight, one day I will become fit,’ until one day I landed in a hospital emergency room. Agarwala decided to embark on a journey that was triggered by that one hospital visit. He weighed almost 152 kilos which was more than 60 kilos extra than a man of his age should weigh. 05/9Strength training sessions thrice a week

Agarwala, a die-hard fan of Roger Federer, incorporated strength-training sessions three times a week. Strength training is essential for weight loss as it builds muscle, which boosts metabolism and burns more calories even at rest. By incorporating strength training exercises like weightlifting, bodyweight exercises, or resistance bands into your routine, you can increase lean muscle mass while shedding fat. This leads to improved body composition, increased strength, and enhanced overall fitness. Additionally, strength training helps preserve bone density and promotes better posture. Combined with a balanced diet, strength training is a powerful tool for achieving weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

07/9A big shift in his diet

One of the big changes in his diet pattern was he stopped eating mindlessly. From fried savoury snacks such as samosas, dosas and cheese toast he switched to consuming less than 1,700 calories day. Weight loss occurs when you consume fewer calories than your body expends, creating a calorie deficit. This deficit prompts the body to use stored fat for energy, resulting in weight loss over time. To achieve a calorie deficit, you can reduce your caloric intake through portion control, choosing nutrient-dense foods, and avoiding high-calorie snacks. Additionally, increasing physical activity helps burn more calories, contributing to the deficit. However, it’s essential to maintain a balanced diet and avoid excessively restrictive measures to ensure adequate nutrition. Consistently maintaining a calorie deficit, combined with healthy lifestyle habits, leads to sustainable weight loss.

Agarwala thanks his wife for supporting him throughout his journey.
